Best time to travel

While deciding when to visit Hoi An, its weather, categorization of main seasons, and key events play a major role. The city has more or less adopted the climatic conditions of Vietnam, staying in the category of tropical climates and thus remaining warm throughout the year. However, the city, unlike Northern Vietnam, has only two main seasons: the rainy season and the dry season.

  1. June to August

Heat waves rock the city of Hoi An during the months from June to August with the highest temperatures soaring to 38 degree Celsius during the day time. The nights are cooler with recorded temperatures of around 21 degrees Celsius.

  1. November to January

The average temperatures during the winter months from November to January are the coldest days of Hoi An. The average daily temperatures stay from anywhere between 19-24 degrees Celsius. This, however, seems to be of no concern to the tourists traveling from the Northern Hemisphere.

  1. September to January

Hoi An tends to get unbearable during its rainy months from September to January. The city is rocked by heavy rains lashing its streets and the entire atmosphere. If that wasn’t enough, the city gets hit with typhoons which may cause floods at a time, bringing your trip to a near perfect end. Consequently, the damp season sees a sharp decline in the number of tourists. This, in turn, means cheap hotels and other accommodations; prices of many services and restaurants also fluctuate considerably during the offseason.

  1. February to May – Best time to visit Hoi An

That brings us to the best time to visit Hoi An; its dry season from the months of February to May. The weather becomes mild and moderate with pleasant temperatures, less rain and even lesser humidity, and warm sunshine. However, this season tends to bring more tourists in its fold making the beaches crowdier. For those who are looking a quiet time sunbathing experience especially at the beaches of Cua Dai and An Bang, postponing the trip to the end of May or beginning of June is recommendable. It is also advisable to make bookings of hotels and homestays way in advance as there are chances of the city being overbooked towards the beginning of its peak season.

Hoi An celebrates the Full Moon Festival once a month usually during the middle. The mid of the Lunar Month thus becomes a perfect time visit Hoi An as the whole town is illuminated with lanterns. Traditional drama performances and music concerts make the town busier than ever with streets bustling with locals and expats and festivities taking up the atmosphere.

The TET Holiday or the Lunar Year Holiday is usually celebrated between the end of January and beginning of February according to the Western calendar. New Year celebrations, however, take place in traditional and formal yet grand ways. Visitors traveling to Hoi An during this time of the year particularly enjoy the celebrations and witness cultural traditions of the city.

The only drawback is that the onset of these festivals sees the closure of many shops and services, thus giving rise to prices of most things.
